You've probably heard about it on social networks or seen it on the supermarket shelves; the famous honey/ginger shot. This shot is normally composed of four key elements that are hyper-beneficial for your health, energy and well-being; honey, ginger, lemon and turmeric.

To facilitate the daily consumption of this beverage, we recommend the use of a small shooter-type digestive glass. While these ingredients are undeniably rich in virtues and help to fortify the body, the combination of certain flavors is not always the easiest to drink (particularly the ginger/turmeric combination, which is quite spicy). These ingredients are much simpler and more pleasant to consume in a single shot, which you can find by clicking here.

The honey shot recipe

Honey not only makes this beverage more palatable (its sweetness and texture soften the sharpness and acidity of the other ingredients), it also has many health benefits, which we'll discover later. So honey is the ingredient that allows you to combine business with pleasure!

Ingredients for 8 - 9 honey shots:

  • 1 cup whole fresh ginger.
  • 1⅓ cup fresh lemon juice.
  • 1 cup liquid of your choice (water - orange juice - pineapple juice - cranberry juice - coconut water).
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric.
  • Pinch of pepper.
  • 50g honey.

Preparation:

  1. Without removing the skin, clean the ginger and cut into large pieces.
  2. In a blender, add all your ingredients until they are as pureed as possible.
  3. Strain the liquid through a fine sieve and squeeze out as much juice as possible.
  4. Pour into a container and store in the fridge for up to a week.
  5. For storage longer than a week, place the liquid in large ice-cube moulds and leave in the freezer.
  6. The pulp can be stored in the freezer and used to flavour Asian vinaigrettes or stir-fries.
  7. In the morning, before breakfast, shake the container vigorously and take a shot of about 60 ml.

Tip: If you don't have a blender, use a fine-bladed grater to purée the ginger and strain out the juice.

The benefits of honey shot ingredients

Ginger is one of the world's best superfoods, thanks to its many virtues. It has antibacterial properties and boosts your immune system. It also helps combat fatigue. In summer, ginger helps regulate perspiration on hot days.

Lemons are high in vitamins C, B and E, as well as trace elements such as calcium, iron, phosphorus and potassium. On top of all this, lemon helps strengthen your immune system and aids digestion. It also has anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious, antibacterial and antiviral properties, and helps eliminate toxins from food and drugs.

Turmeric has a thousand and one medicinal virtues. According to some studies, it helps prevent cancer and reduce metastasis. In addition, this zingiberaceous plant treats inflammatory diseases and digestive disorders, while helping to prevent type 2 diabetes.

Honey not only pleases our taste buds, it is also rich in rare trace elements such as magnesium, barium and selenium, which are rarely found in our diet these days.

The main function of the pepper in the shot is to aid absorption of the curcumin found in turmeric.

All that's left for you to do is enjoy the benefits of this quick and easy-to-prepare honey shot.
