Moroccan Argan Honey: what you should know

• Moroccan Argan Honey is a monofloral honey produced from the nectar of the argan tree (Argania spinosa), a species native exclusively to south-western Morocco.

• It is harvested in spring during the argan tree's short flowering season, making it a rare honey produced in naturally limited quantities.

• It is renowned for its deep amber colour, powerful woody flavour with subtle caramel notes and its rich, smooth texture.

• Delicious enjoyed by the spoonful, on bread, with traditional amlou or to sweeten tea. Add it once your drink is no longer boiling to preserve its delicate aromas.

• This Miel Impérial jar contains 250g of 100% pure and natural Argan Honey, with no additives or preservatives.

The argan tree grows naturally only in Morocco

The argan tree (Argania spinosa) is an exceptional species found naturally only in a narrow area of south-western Morocco, between Essaouira, Agadir and the Souss Valley. This unique ecosystem, known as the Arganeraie, has been recognised by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. Besides producing the world-famous argan oil, this remarkable tree also gives rise to one of Morocco's rarest honeys.

The argan tree flowers for only a few weeks each spring. Bees therefore have a very limited period to collect nectar from its small yellow-green blossoms, naturally restricting annual production. The result is an exceptional honey that remains rare even within Morocco and is often reserved for special occasions. Discover our complete selection of Moroccan honeys.

What does Argan Honey taste like?

Argan Honey is a honey with real character, very different from light floral varieties. It has a deep amber, almost copper-like colour. On the palate, it delivers a rich woody flavour, with warm notes of caramel and roasted nuts, followed by a slightly bitter finish typical of honeys produced in dry regions. Its texture is thick, smooth and may naturally become slightly crystallised over time.

If you enjoy bold honeys such as Sidr, chestnut or euphorbia honey, you'll appreciate the remarkable intensity of Moroccan Argan Honey. For anyone discovering Moroccan honeys for the first time, it offers a truly memorable tasting experience.

How to enjoy Moroccan Argan Honey

Enjoy it by the spoonful

This is the best way to appreciate its full aromatic richness. A spoonful in the morning, as traditionally enjoyed in Morocco, is enough to discover why this honey is considered so exceptional.

Perfect with traditional amlou

Spread some amlou (almonds, argan oil and honey) on fresh bread, then finish with a drizzle of Argan Honey. The same tree provides two of the Souss region's greatest culinary treasures.

With mature cheeses

Its intense flavour pairs beautifully with goat's cheese, sheep's cheese or blue cheese, creating an elegant sweet-and-savory combination.

In tea or herbal infusions

Ideal for sweetening Moroccan mint tea or herbal infusions. Add the honey once the drink is no longer boiling to preserve its delicate natural aromas.

Storage

Store the jar tightly closed at room temperature, away from light, heat and humidity. Crystallisation is a completely natural process and a sign of genuine, unprocessed honey. It does not affect either the flavour or the quality. To return the honey to a more liquid texture, simply place the jar in a warm water bath below 40°C for a few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions – Moroccan Argan Honey

What exactly is Moroccan Argan Honey?

Moroccan Argan Honey is produced by bees from the nectar of the argan tree, which grows naturally only in Morocco. It does not contain argan oil: it is a genuine monofloral honey harvested during spring from the argan forests of the Souss region.

Why is Argan Honey so rare?

Because the argan tree grows only in a small area of south-western Morocco and flowers for just a few weeks each year. This very short flowering period naturally limits the annual honey harvest.

What is the difference between Argan Honey and argan oil?

Argan oil is extracted from the kernels inside the argan fruit, while Argan Honey is produced from the nectar of the tree's blossoms collected by bees. They are two completely different natural products from the same remarkable tree and are traditionally combined in Moroccan amlou.

My honey has crystallised. Is that normal?

Yes, absolutely. Crystallisation is a natural sign of genuine, unprocessed honey. It does not affect the flavour or quality. To restore a more liquid texture, simply place the jar in warm water below 40°C for a few minutes.

Which Moroccan honey should I try first?

If you enjoy bold and distinctive flavours, Moroccan Argan Honey is an excellent choice. If you prefer milder honeys, start with blossom or orange blossom honey before exploring richer varieties. Discover our full selection of Moroccan honeys.

How long does a 250g jar keep?

When stored tightly closed at room temperature, away from light and moisture, honey keeps for many years. It is one of the very few natural foods that retains its quality for an exceptionally long time when properly stored.
