What is propolis?
Propolis is a product of the beehive, produced by honeybees. These workers secrete propolis to seal cracks and repair alveoli. Its antibacterial properties are well known to bees, who use it to disinfect and sanitize the hive. They even use propolis to mummify large animals to prevent decomposition. This natural shield, produced by bees, is one of nature's most powerful. It is an anti-infective, antibiotic, antiviral, fungicide and powerful antioxidant. This resinous, gummy substance has been used for thousands of years. Its medicinal use has stood the test of time, without losing any of its value.
Its use goes back a long way
Propolis was once used by the Egyptians to mummify their dead. The good condition of Egyptian mummies was due to their embalming in propolis. The Greeks and Romans appreciated propolis for its antiseptic and healing properties. They applied it to war wounds to speed recovery. The same method was used in the Middle Ages to heal arrow wounds. Gradually, propolis was replaced by pharmaceutical healing agents. More practical, less expensive, but less effective than this treasure from the hive. Propolis was also a component of the first varnishes. Thanks to its ability to brighten wood. That's why you can still find varnish pots with bee or hive designs.

Is propolis effective against COVID-19?
The antiviral properties of propolis have prompted scientists to conduct experiments on its effectiveness against the Corona Virus. COVID-19 inserts itself into host cells via the ACE2, TMPRSS2 and PAK1 mechanisms. The way to block the spread of the virus in the body would be to block these 3 players. Studies have shown that propolis acts on these players. Propolis inhibits the interactionsofACE2, TMPRSS2 and PAK1, slowing them down. To date, however, it has not been demonstrated that propolis eliminates the virus, only prevents itfromdeveloping. This ability makes for less virulent symptoms. When combined with honey , this inhibition of the virus is amplified. Ethiopian black cumin oil has also been credited with benefits against this virus. Like propolis, black cumin seed boosts the immune system. This helps fight bacteria and viruses. Precautions and contraindications Propolis has noknownside effects. However, it should not be consumed by people allergic to hive products. Nor should it be combined with Tiger Balm: the combination may provoke an allergic skin reaction. Consumption must be in moderation. Propolis stimulates the immune system. For this reason, a course of treatment should not exceed 3 weeks. Beyond that, you run the risk of having an allergic reaction to propolis. We therefore advise you to take a break of at least 1 week between each course of treatment. If in doubt, consult your doctor. The advice and information on our website do not constitute a prescription.
