Small or large, sweet, full of nutrients and energy, in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes, dates are a delight from 7 to 77 years old, and beyond!

Dates grow in different parts of the world, and in some regions, specific varieties are grown that are perfectly adapted to local conditions, and that can't be found anywhere else. Ajwa dates are a case in point.

Originating in Medina and renowned the world over for their qualities and benefits, these dates grow only in Medina, and are produced nowhere else!

Geographical and natural origin of Ajwa dates

The Ajwa date originates from the city of Medina, where the date palms were planted by the Prophet himself, peace and blessings be upon him, making this fruit unique in the world!

From the south-east of Medina, a region mentioned in the hadith, the Prophet, peace and salvation be upon him, recommended the consumption of these delicious dates, and it was the variety of dates he, peace and salvation be upon him, preferred.

Ajwa dates are a sweet, succulent and fruity variety with a fine texture. It is reported that these dates were eaten over 8,000 years ago in Arabia, but also in North Africa!

A quick reminder about dates in general

Dates have been a staple food in the Middle East for thousands of years, and throughout the religious fasting period of Ramadan, these dried fruits are a common ingredient in the diet.

Each date contains around 60-70% sugar, a large amount of fiber, depending on the variety, making it ideal as a healthy source of energy, dates are also rich in iron and help combat anemia.

Dates are now popular worldwide and are used as a natural sweetener in smoothies, juices, nutrition bars and baked goods such as cakes and muffins.

Description of Ajwa dates

Dried Ajwa dates are very dark brown, almost black, rich in many nutrients, sweet and juicy, with a mild, fruity flavor.

These dates taste like caramel, with a hint of licorice. Once in the mouth, they have a fine, high-quality texture.

Ajwa dates have nothing in common with the famous Algerian deglet nour so famous in France: they are darker in color and have a different shape.

Benefits and virtues of Ajwa dates

An article published in a renowned scientific journal claims that over 15% of daily requirements for essential minerals such as copper, potassium, magnesium and selenium can be met by consuming 100 grams of dates, i.e. around 4 dates a day!

Ajwa dates are consumed for their exceptional taste, and can even be considered as an alicament. Alicament derives from the contraction of two words: food + medicine.

However, it's worth remembering that nutraceuticals are preventive rather than curative, as a particular illness requires a specific treatment.

Alicaments are easy to consume, since they are relatively easy to find on supermarket shelves or in specialist stores. The Ajwa date is a natural, non-industrial alicament.

As an exceptional health food, Ajwa dates help to :

  1. Improve digestive health, relieve constipation:
The fiber present in Ajwa dates helps cleanse the gastrointestinal system, enabling the colon to function optimally, and reduces the risk of intestinal inflammation (colitis), colon cancer and hemorrhoids,

  2. Improved heart health:
In addition to promoting colon health, fiber is also known to improve heart health,

  3. An anti-inflammatory effect:
As Ajwa dates are rich in magnesium - a mineral known for its anti-inflammatory benefits - they have anti-inflammatory properties similar to those of commercially available drugs such as ibuprofen and aspirin,

  4. Lower blood pressure:
Magnesium has been shown to help reduce blood pressure, and once again, Ajwa dates are packed with this mineral,

  5. Stroke risk reduction:
Researchers found that the risk of stroke was reduced by 9% for every 100 milligrams of magnesium consumed daily,

  6. Healthy pregnancy and childbirth:
A study has shown that consumption of Ajwa dates in late pregnancy promotes the progression of labor, and reduces the need to artificially induce labor and/or cesarean section. So you can see why dates are so important.

  7. Improved brain health:
Some studies have shown that sufficient levels of vitamin B6 are associated with better brain performance,

  8. Excellent health and strong bones:
The high mineral content of Ajwa dates makes them a super food for strengthening bones and fighting painful diseases such as osteoporosis,

  9. Reduced risk of anaemia:
Ajwa dates have a dark color due to their high mineral content, yet their impressive iron levels make them an ideal dietary supplement for people suffering from anaemia,

  10. Energy boost:
Ajwa dates are rich in natural sugars such as glucose, fructose and sucrose, making them the perfect snack for an immediate energy boost. What's more, the sugars present in Ajwa dates are even more beneficial, especially for people with type 2 diabetes,

  11. Maintain a healthy nervous system:
The vitamins present in Ajwa dates make them an ideal stimulant for the health and functionality of the nervous system, potassium being an essential ingredient in the maintenance of a healthy, responsive nervous system, and also improves the speed and alertness of brain activity.

  12. Prevent oxidative stress and inflammation in the brain:
In fact, according to research: "date palm fruits are a good source of dietary fiber, are rich in total phenolic compounds and natural antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, ferulic acid, protocatechoic acid and caffeic acid".

The presence of these polyphenolic compounds could help slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

To complete the list of benefits, Ajwa dates contain :

  • Calcium,
  • Phosphorus
  • Vitamins A, C, B1, B5.

This list is of course exhaustive, but given the large number of beneficial elements, it would be too cumbersome for the reader to mention them all, so we'll just finish by saying that it's an additive-free product, with no added sugar, unsulphured and 100% natural, just like sukari dates.

Directions for use

Ajwa dates are best eaten in the morning, seven times a day, in accordance with the hadith quoted above.

We particularly recommend this date for pregnant and breast-feeding women.

However, there's no need to eat 7 of them, as eating them for the sheer pleasure of eating them is perfectly possible, given how delicious this fruit is.

Although we recommend eating them in their raw form, you can also give free rein to your imagination, adapting them to your own tastes.

Finally, you can give them as a gift - an elegant and much appreciated gift.

Storage and precautions

To preserve these dates as long as possible, please store them at room temperature between 10 and 25 degrees.
