Description

Jujube honey comes from the jujube tree, a thorny plant that produces a small, reddish fruit called jujube. This honey is also known as "sidr honey", or "sidr maliky" in Arabic. It's one of the most sought-after honeys in the world, thanks to its rarity, its pure composition and its innumerable health benefits. It is considered to be the gold of Yemen and is exported all over the world. For all these reasons, jujube honey is a very expensive product, costing upwards of €100 for 1kg of this precious nectar.

Characteristics

Its color is clear and golden, its nutty flavor is both sweet and intense, and it has the particularity of not hardening even when it's cold.

Storage

Sidr honey can be stored at room temperature, in a room not exceeding 25 degrees. Be careful, however, not to keep it in the refrigerator. Once opened, simply close the jar tightly and store in an airtight, moisture-free cupboard. Honey is a fabulous product because it's non-perishable, so you can keep it for a very long time. We recommend using a wooden honey spoon to avoid wasting a single drop!

Provenance

This golden jewel comes from Yemen, one of the world's leading honey-producing countries and, above all, the one that produces monofloral honey of unrivalled quality. Yemen's wild, desert lands make it an ideal place to harvest this rare liquid. Most jujube honey is harvested in the Dawan region (Hadramaout)

Harvest

Royal jujube honey is harvested by hand by Yemeni beekeepers from November onwards, using traditional techniques that respect the environment and the bees' habitat. The jujube tree flowers for almost 40 days, the time needed for the bees to gather the flowers and return to the hive to make the honey.

The jujube tree AND HONEY in the Koran and Sunnah

Abû Nu'aym reports in his book that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ)(learn Arabic) said: " When Adam was brought down to Earth, the first fruit he ate was the jujube. " And the Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) mentioned the jujube in a hadith that is unanimously recognized as authentic, which says that during his nocturnal journey, he saw the celestial jujube tree whose fruits are similar to the jugs of the city of Hajar. (1)(2)

Honey is also mentioned many times in the Qur'an and Sunnah. Here are some verses taken from Sura An Nahl - The Bees: " [Et voilà] what your Lord taught the bees: "Take up dwellings in the mountains, trees and trellises that men make, then eat every kind of fruit, and follow the paths of your Lord, made easy for you. Out of their bellies comes a liquor, of various colors, in which there is healing for people. Truly, there is proof here for the thinking people. " Verses 68 and 69.

And many hadiths mention honey as being recommended and used to heal the sick. These assertions are confirmed by modern scientific research, which shows that honey is a natural substitute for many medicines.
